In true PoaDM fashion we're again announcing the departure of another drummer. While we were looking forward to the debut of our new lineup with Krist, life (as it always does) gets busy. We hoped things would have worked out, but Krist is refocusing and gonna do awesome things with whats most important to him.

That said, we're still playing our scheduled gig at the Duluth Homegrown Music Festival on Friday May 4th. HUGE thanks to Chris Barnholdt for stepping in and making this performance happen. Chris is a good friend and fellow bandmate of both Paul and Jesse's other projects (A Winter Downpour and Atlas Mts).

Portrait of a Drowned Man has created moody soundtracks in the Twin Ports for close to a decade. Starting in 2003, the band sought to perfect no-wave orchestrations that can go from uncomfortably quiet to roaring tempest in a heartbeat. Paul Connolly, Justin Kervina and Jesse Hoheisel’s guitar attacks are now backed by Krist Whelan on drums, who replaced former member Mat Milinkovich this past winter. Before taking a brief hiatus in 2009, the group released a self-titled album in 2006 and performed live extensively to support it. In October another collection of sleepy symphonies was released, titled Great Grey.

We're excited to announce drummer Krist Whelan has joined PoaDM as our newest member. You may know Krist from his work with Paradigm Collapse. We've been working with Krist on our back catalogue and looking forward to writing new material with him.

Our first show with Krist is gonna be at the 2012 Duluth Homegrown Music Festival. We're scheduled to play Friday, May 4 at Pizza Luce here in Duluth. Don't miss it!

After playing our release show some of us decided that Portrait of a Drowned Man was a band we wanted to keep going. However, our long time drummer Mat Milinkovich will not be joining us for the next chapter.

Mat has recorded with us on both our records, played countless shows with us and in the process became a close friend... but he's a busy dude and we gotta respect that. Many of you know Mat's main project Cars & Trucks, if not check 'em out. He's an amazing drummer and we all feel lucky to have shared the stage with him.

Tomorrow evening, at 10pm tune into 91.3 FM for an exclusive live in-studio performance. We'll be talking about our release show and new album with Walt Dizzo. KUWS doesn't have streaming capabilities, but hopefully we'll be able to post a recording of our set after the show.

Here is what we're planning on playing:

1. The Marina is too Shallow
2. Green Halls to Conception
3. Castle Danger
4. All the Trees are Dead

A couple older tracks off our s/t EP and a couple new tracks off of Great Grey. Last time we played an in-studio was nearly 5 years ago when we performed on 770 Radio K in Minneapolis for Now Like Photographs.

We'll be playing a show Friday, Oct. 28th at Teatro Zuccone here in Duluth with our pals in post-rock Minneapolis' Nomia. Hand screen printed copies of Great Grey will be available for the first time at the show.

We chose to play at Teatro Zuccone because they do a great job of supporting local arts in Duluth, and the show can be attended by all ages. Music will start around 8pm with Nomia and we'll close out the evening with plenty of time to spare to get down on your Halloween partying. We'll be performing Great Grey in it's entirety, plus a few older songs off our s/t EP.

It's been over two years since we've all been on stage together... we hope you can make it. Please, tell a friend if you think they'd be into it. Seeing all our friends and fans in the crowd would be amazing.
